Friday Fads: Overrated or Must Haves?

There are always new fads floating around. Whether it be fashion fads, health trends, or that thing that everyone is saying you must try, we know there is A LOT out there. But we wanted to work through some health fads that you may have heard buzzing around and let you know what we think... if they are overrated or a must have.

I am a 123% believer in nut milk. ALL the nut milk. For lots of reasons:

1. I struggle to get enough protein, and nut milk is an easy way for me to fit more into my day.
2. It adds a little bit of natural sweetness to things like smoothies and cereal (I use the unsweetened vanilla)
3. Turns out--my tummy does not like dairy, so it’s a great alternative.

Trader Joe’s Unsweetened Vanilla Almond Milk

Trader Joe’s Cocoa Cashew Almond Beverage (so yummy chilled or as a smoothie base)

Trader Joe’s has gone a little wild with the “almond beverage trend” would you be brave enough to try these... I tried the blueberry lavender one!

I don’t love LOVE it, but I’m learning to. For now I’m just dealing with it because I know it’s so good for me. I’ve found some brands and flavors that make it a little easier to get on board with. Simple Truth organic raspberry lemonade is my favorite! Now I’m not chugging them down, I usually get a couple and sip on them all week long. I do notice that my tummy is happier when I include it. So I’ve added it to my grocery list and keep trying!

Pure Barre
Last year for my birthday. I jumped in on a good sale and bought myself one month of unlimited Pure Barre. And you better believe I was there every single day. The workouts are surprisingly intense and you wonder how such little movements could hurt so much. I did really like it, though I think after a bit I would get bored.

My only complaints— it is a little bit clicky and cultish. Everyone sort of wears the same clothes and acts the same way. It’s also extremely expensive unless you get an awesome deal. It can get a little boring after a while.

Bulletproof Coffee
I feel like this has been a MAJOR buzz word floating around in the health world for a little while now. Many associate it with the Keto diet, but it actually is something anyone and everyone can bring into their diet/routine. If you haven't caught on, I am a big believer in the bulletproof.

A little over a year ago I changed my diet to a Keto diet, which is when I integrated bulletproof into my life. It did take me a little bit to get used to it being a black coffee drinker, but I really enjoy it now. If you don't know anything about bulletproof, it is simply black coffee blended with real butter (grass fed is the best), coconut oil or MCT oil, and stevia if you choose. If you want to give it a try I would recommend starting with 1 tablespoon of each ingredient, and then you can up the butter and coconut oil to 2 tablespoons as you progress. Two tablespoons can be a little heavy if you are not used to a lot of healthy fats.

Fitness Subscription Boxes
Probably one of the most heard of and talked about fitness subscription boxes would have to be Fabletics. I don't know about you, but it is difficult for me to get on Facebook without seeing a Fabletics ad. I did look into Fabletics, but was leery of it for several reasons. I am not knocking it! I haven't tried them, and I know some love their Fabletics subscription, but I will talk about a fitness subscription box that I really have loved, Ellie Activewear.

Collagen Peptides 
I have been hearing about collagen peptides for some time. My interest wasn't peaked by the promise of strong nails and healthy hair, however it is supposed to aid in skin, nails, and hair health. My interest was peaked when I heard that our bodies actually do not produce or replenish collagen once we have lost it, including collagen that supports joints and bones.
