Where We're At Wednesday: A Little Obsessed with September

Rachel here! Are you surprised really? I mean the title was a dead giveaway. I am indeed a little bit obsessed with September--or maybe more than a little if I’m being honest. And, that’s what I’m here for after all, to be honest!

Sometimes “Where We’re At Wednesday” can be on the raw, heavy side. Other times it’s going to be like today--light and fresh and full of life. And that’s exactly the way it should be because that’s exactly the way life is. There are ups and downs and all arounds. There are so many hard and heavy days and there are just as many (if not more) beautiful and bright days! We want to share them all with you. We want you to see that life is a magical mix of them both and that somehow, even when we can’t see it--mostly then--God is shaping them into this grand story for His great purposes!

So back to September.

I’d tell you that I’m not quite sure what it is about September that has me smitten, but that’s absolutely not true. I know exactly what it is. It’s so many things! If you haven’t taken a moment to soak in September before, I sure hope you will after this.

Now let me pause here for a second. I do know that September is not the same everywhere. Believe me, I lived in Guadalajara, Mexico for two years, I know that seasons vary based on your geolocation. I got it. So take it with a grain of salt that I’m sharing September from my perspective. For the record, it’s my favorite month to share with people in my city, so if ever you’re in the neighborhood be sure to look me up!

As I was saying, it’s a million little things. It’s the piercing blue sky drenched in this particular golden light. It’s the way that the air and the atmosphere change so suddenly. It’s cooler and it’s crisper but the sun is still warm and bright above. There are still so many adventures to be had outdoors but you can finally bring your cute sweater along. Not to worry though, sandals will still do. Is there anything better than sandals and a sundress and a chunky cozy sweater? Not for this girl! The air sort of whispers to you that wonderful things are coming--the green leaves on the tree branches flutter in the breeze and they are so full of joy knowing that they are about to burst forth and be painted the most brilliant shades of autumn.

Sigh. Oh how I love September. My heart just feels so full and alive and grateful. September does something to me--in me--the crisp air and golden light sort of wakes me up somehow. They inspire me like nothing else does.

And I know that winter will come again. It has to. I know that. And then I’ll miss the fall and look forward to the spring. And perhaps I’ll even love the frigid air and pure white snow on the evergreen branches. (For a bit….) But that’s what I love about seasons. The way they create anticipation and longing in us. They make us appreciate the present moments, look back fondly on past experiences, and look forward to brand new seasons and all that comes with them. What’s most fascinating about seasons is that they are one of the most repetitive cycles that we know and somehow they are still brand new every single time they come around!

All that to say that I’m full and bright and so very thankful this Wednesday. Working to be present and to soak up this season that I love so much with September issues and all things pumpkin and breathing in all the bright blue air.

Would love to hear what September looks like/feels like where you are and what season you look forward to the most! If you’re in a tougher season, let us know how we can pray for you and if you’re in a “September season” let us know how we can celebrate with you!
